Each spring the Russian and East European Studies Department organizes a one-day symposium devoted to a discrete, often interdisciplinary topic of research. Past topics have included: “Euterpe in Furs: Russian Musical culture of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries”; “Dostoevsky Dismembered”; “Samizdat and Underground Culture in the Soviet Bloc Countries”; and “Slavic Historical Mythologies.” Each symposium features original article-length (20-30pp.) papers that are pre-circulated electronically to conference participants and audience members. Participants present fifteen-minute summaries of their papers, making possible a compact event with time for productive discussion.
