Russian and East European StudiesIf you would like to take the test, please email Djamilia Nazyrova at nazyrova@sas.upenn.edu with your PennKey. You will then receive an invitation to our Placement Test 2025 Canvas course. After accepting the invitation, you'll need to complete the language background questionnaire in Canvas for the test.
The date of the next placement test is August 22 2025, 4-6 PM

If you need to take the placement test earlier than the date listed above for course enrollment for Summer or Fall 2025, please contact Djamilia Nazyrova to schedule a virtual test.
Please note that the placement test for the language requirement must be taken in person and may not be retaken.

Penn Language Requirement/Placement Test assesses your ability to understand and communicate in a language, as well as your understanding of the basic structure of this language (sentence structure, basic declension and conjugation patterns) and consists of a reading, a grammar and vocabulary, an essay and a speaking/listening section.
