Penn Language Requirement/Placement Test assesses your ability to understand and communicate in a language, as well as your understanding of the basic structure of this language (sentence structure, basic declension and conjugation patterns) and consists of a reading, a grammar and vocabulary, an essay and a speaking/listening section.
Please note that the placement test for the Penn Language Requirement must be taken in person and may not be retaken.
REGISTRATION
If you would like to take the test, please complete the following two steps:
1) email Djamilia Nazyrova with your PennKey. You will then receive an invitation to our Placement Test 2025 Canvas course. After accepting the invitation, you'll need to complete the language background questionnaire in Canvas for the test.
2) Use this link to complete the additional online registration, and use the same answers you provided in the questionnair.

The Make-Up date is:
August 24, 8-10 AM

FINDING PLACEMENT TEST RESULTS
Students can view exam results in “View my Student Profile” on PATH@Penn under the “Tests” tab on the lefthand menu.
INTERPRETING TEST RESULTS
0 – register for RUSS 0101 or RUSS 0201
400 – register for RUSS 0200 or RUSS 0401
450 – register for RUSS 0300, meets Wharton and Nursing Language Requirement
500 – register for RUSS 0400
650 – register for RUSS 1100, meets College Language Requirement
700 -- reguster for REES language courses at 2000 and 3000 levels
