Minor in Russian and East European Studies (REES)

This minor will be available to declare beginning in Fall 2025. Please contact the Undergraduate Chair with any questions.

The minor in Russian and East European Studies (6 c.u.) offers a maximally flexible approach to a coordinated program of study of Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. Students develop their own disciplinary focus while receiving a rigorous introduction to the study of the region through a selection of area studies courses taught in English.

Minor Requirements

Language Prerequisite

The REES minor requires 2 semesters or equivalent in any language of the region, subject to approval by the Undergraduate Chair. These courses do not count toward the minor's 6 c.u.

Introductory Core (1 c.u.)

REES 0010: Central and Eastern Europe: Cultures, Histories, Societies

Area Studies (2 c.u.)

Any two courses with a REES subject code taught in English.

Electives (3 c.u.)

Any three courses with a REES subject code or bearing the attribute REES Elective (ARNE), or language courses beyond the first year of instruction.
