Funding Opportunities

Students are encouraged to apply for Boren scholarships funded the National Security Education Program, which supports study of languages, cultures and fields of study critical to U.S. national security. This program gives preference to students applying to study in specific countries, including many in our area of expertise (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan). Note there is a special deadline for Penn applicants.

Students may also consider applying for the Critical Language Scholarship funded by US Department of State and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to support study of Russian.

It is also a good idea to check Penn’s most recent listings for funding opportunities on theFinancing Study Abroad page at Penn Abroad.

In addition, most summer programs provide financial aid. Students are advised to check with individual programs about funding opportunities.
