Traditional Track

Russian language courses in the traditional track are inteded for true beginners, students who began study of Russian with no previous background in the language. If you grew up in a Russian-speaking home or community, please check our Heritage track descriptions.

 

First-year courses:

 

  • Russian 001 (1 c.u.): Elementary Russian I (offered in Fall)
  • Russian 002 (1 c.u.): Elementary Russian II (offered in Spring)
  • Russian 105 (2 c.u.): Accelerated Elementary Russian (offered in Spring)

 

Second-year courses:

  • Russian 003 (1 c.u.): Intermediate Russian I (offered in Fall)
  • Russian 004 (1 c.u.): Intermediate Russian II (offered in Spring) *Course fulfills Penn Language Requirement


Third-year courses:

  • Russian 311 (1 c.u.): Advanced Russian I (offered in Fall)
  • Russian 312 (1 c.u.): Advanced Russian II (offered in Spring)

 

Fourth-year courses:
A variety of content courses taught in Russian on topics including Business and Political Russian, History in Russian, Russian Literature, Folklore and Song, Soviet and Russian Film (offered both fall and spring semesters).

 

Fifth-year courses:
A variety of content courses taught in Russian on topics including History in Russian Russian, Advanced Russian for Business, Russian Poets. Our fifth-year courses combine students in traditional and heritage tracks.
