The Outsiders: Refugees in Modern European and Western History

Philipp Ther is a visiting fellow at NYU's Remarque Institute during spring 2019. He is a professor of Central European History at the University of Vienna, where he also served as director of the Institute of East European History from 2014 until 2018.  
He has published a number of well-reviewed books. He has published The Dark Side of Nation States: Ethnic Cleansing in Modern Europe, New York: Berghahn Press, 2014 among other well-received books.
He received his master’s degree from Georgetown University and PhD in history from the Free University of Berlin. From 2007 to 2010, he was a professor of European history at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
