Faculty Profile: Maria Alley

Dr. Maria Alley is the Language Program Coordinator at the Department of Russian and East European Studies. She was born and raised in Ukhta, a small town in the Komi Republic in Northern Russia.. Maria received her Ph.D. in Slavic Linguistics from Ohio State University in 2011. She taught Russian language, culture and teaching methodology courses at the Ohio State University since 2000. Maria has served as a visiting faculty at the Indiana University Summer Workshop in Slavic, East European and Central Asian Languages. Her research interests are second language acquisition, language pedagogy and methodology, assessment and proficiency testing, and materials development. Outside of work, she is an accomplished bliny (Russian pancakes) baker, and enjoys sci-fi and traveling.
