The Post-Communist Mafia State?

A Talk by Mr. Balint Magyar, October 12, 5 pm, Annenberg 111

Bálint Magyar has twice served as Minister of Education of Hungary and is a founding member of the Alliance of Free Democrats. His book, The Post-Communist Mafia State, describes the Orban regime in Hungary, but can be applied more generally to other postcommunist states where nascent democracies have been threatened by the rise of mafia-type networks.
This book is is about Hungary, but the discussants will present comparisons to other post-communist countries.

Discussants: Dr. Mitchell Orenstein (Upenn) and Dr. Phillip Nichols (Upenn)
